Headline news and mother's day
Today's section in the newspaper, SATURDAY, states the large and bold headlines on the cover page. SERIAL SEX, The new teen drug. According to counsellors, they are seeing an increasing number of sexually-active teenagers. Thus, it also meant there has been an increase of pre-marital sex that was reported. No surprise there in my opinion, however, what caught my attention in the article is the way they project the thinking of teenagers about the topic sex.
Very accurate these counsellors are regarding the way we teenagers think, after all they were also once teenagers as well. Guess the American lifestyle has already played a huge role in teenagers, even kids aged as young as 8 years old. Seems like we Asians, are influenced by Westerners. This is what happens when a country tries to mimic the Superpowers of the world, the United States Of America. I don't even understand why they call America the Superpower nation of the world. Is it because they won World War 2? They are the largest country in the world? Or they are the richest??
What if America is just a tiny land mass such as Singapore, and Singapore is a country as large as America. Singapore is the richest country in the world. Singapore saves America from the Japanese Occupation. Will it be different? Will the Asian culture influence the American? Will we see Americans wearing Cheongsam or Baju Kurung during Christmas? Why i say that? Its plain and simple. During our racial celebration, more people prefer wearing casual clothes than their own unique traditional costumes. It's pretty obvious that casual clothes are from America, as we don't see all Americans dressed as Santa Claus during Christmas day rite.
I think it is inevitable, sooner or later countries from around the world will be influenced by the American culture. Regardless whether it is morally right or wrong. Pre-Marital sex is of course morally and religiously wrong in Asian culture.
As i was reading the article, i was kinda sadden by the fact that more malay girls, who are just in their teens, are pregnant. Malay teens went up from 300 cases a year between 1995-1997 to 431 cases in 2002. Other races however, dropped. Bear in mind that this are just reported cases, what about those not reported? I'm sure the numbers will be more than what the figures show.
Please, i noe that malay teenagers are not naturally sexual active. Our religion taught us to abstain from sex before marriage. What if your spouse or loved ones did abstain from sex before marriage but you on the other hand, had sex with people even before you meet ur loved ones? Will it be like betraying your spouse's love? Don't follow or be influenced by Western culture. Shows like O.C, Smallville, Desperate housewives are just for entertainment. Reflect on the crisis and problems which the story projects but don't ever follow their promiscous acts.
Niwaes, tomorrow is Mother's Day! To all mother's out there, Happy Mother's Day. Tomorrow gonna start my day at the beach, will be having a family gathering at Changi Beach. So if you peeps see a family which are noisy and constantly playing loud music on the radio, little kids running around and parents shouting at them not to do dangerous acts, a wide variety of sumptuous food spread across the picnic's mat, its my family alrite! Basically, my aunt's, uncle's and cousins will be there. As expected from me, i won't be giving any presents for my mom. (",) Y? Because i don't believe in showing your love and giving them gifts only on mother's day. With a mum like her and a son like me, everyday is mother's day. Hahahx, shower you mother with love and appreciation everyday and not just only on Mother's Day..
